Atlantics are cruisers for sailors who do not wish to be restricted to a particular cruising area. Drying out somewhere in Brittany, exploring the South-West coast of Ireland and perhaps sailing on to Iceland or the Azores, the only limit is your imagination.
Built-in comfort
A fit, well-fed and warm crew is a happy crew who enjoy their sailing, hence no horizon is too far! The Atlantics are imbued with comfort, exactly for those moments when required the most: at sea. Real comfort is not defined by built-in contrivances, it is more a question of ergonomics: sitting, working and resting while underway should be comfortable.
The fixed, low sprayhood is a ‘halfway house’ between the outside world and the warmth below decks. Sheltered from the weather, whilst maintaining contact with the helmsman. Here is where you change into and out of your sailing togs. It is a dry storage area for gear that needs to be kept within arm’s reach. In short, the sprayhood is the most used part of the boat. In addition it provides ample ventilation under most weather conditions.
The custom-built interior is tailored – with our advice on efficiency – entirely to your intended use. An Atlantic for two people who want to travel far requires a different interior layout than a boat for a couple with children, who mainly make day trips. Are you mainly looking for the higher latitudes in cold regions or do you prefer sailing in the tropics? The interior and equipment can be adjusted to that.
Sailing characteristics
Extreme speeds are not the forte of a cruiser. High daily mileages, by day and night, are possible in any wind direction whether it be in light airs or in a stiff breeze. The performance is attributable to the following:
- Excellent sailing properties due to a generous sail area and a very long waterline;
- An ergonomically designed deck lay-out allowing for all sail handling to be carried out singlehanded;
- Twin rudders make the steering a pleasure and lighten the work of the autopilot or windvane;
- With the engine, retractable keel and bow-thruster, you are always in control.
The versatility of Atlantics is demonstrated by its owners. Atlantics of all sizes crossed oceans, cruised the Caribbean, the Azores, the Med and most European coasts, including the tidal shallows of the British East coast and the Dutch and German sands. Mooring in Porto on the Douro river close to the Dom Luiz bridge or in a remote corner of a small Frisian lake? Atlantic cruisers do this by pulling the keel up.
Durability
Each Atlantic is a sturdy, safe floating home and reliable investment. The craftsmanship required to achieve the build quality is readily apparent and adds to the pleasures of sailing.
- The solid aluminium construction and the extensive preservation and insulation are the recipes for longevity;
- The installation of deck fittings, engine, hydraulic and electrical systems are undertaken with the greatest care, resulting in trouble-free operation, even under adverse circumstances;
- The excellence of the paintwork also ensures longevity and engenders pride of ownership;
- Each Atlantic is built according to the CE A norm.
